You will play a key role in enabling the people we support to carry out all aspects of their everyday life. No two days are every the same and it’s that variety our teams love and that motivates them to treat every day as a new opportunity.
On a daily basis we empower people to meet their aspirations and goals in life, and to live as independently as they wish.
We work with people who have a range of support needs and our focus is always on the individual and how best to support them to live the type of life they wish to live, to have fun and make memories!
We also support people who have a learning disability, who may also be on the autism spectrum, have physical disabilities, complex needs, associated health needs such as epilepsy or mental health needs or dementia.
Some of the people we support may at times show that they are unhappy through their behaviour. This can be a way for them to control their environment when they are unable to communicate their hopes, needs and fears. You will work as part of a team to support them to make structured changes to their life to achieve a positive outcome.
Whilst not all of the people we support need personal care, some will and at varying levels. This can range from offering encouragement and support to people to enable them to do it themselves, or physically supporting them directly.
We always base our support on the specific needs, choices and aspirations of the individual following our principles of person-centred support.
You need to be positive and committed to supporting people and improving people’s lives. It is hard work but amazingly rewarding and to reach your full potential in this role you need to have the right values in working with people and being part of a team.
Good communication, having a flexible approach, being able to listen and come up new ideas and to support people to plan and to achieve their goals are all essential parts of the role.
You will be willing to learn and try new things, through both training and team work.
We have roles available to fit around you and your availability but that flexibility does go two ways. Some of our services operate over 24 hours a day, every day so there is some evening, weekend and night working required, depending on the people we are supporting and hours of support they need.
