We have an 18 hour permanent vacancy for an Occupational Therapist (OT) in the Wigtownshire community team based in Newton Stewart, 52.14 weeks per year. There is also the opportunity of a further 18 hours on a temporary basis currently up to 1 year with the Stewartry community team who are located in Castle Douglas.
The OT will be involved with assessment in partnership with people with disabilities and their informal carers, and making recommendations to meet need, which will include assistive equipment, adaptations, blue badge and housing. The OT will work with other OT and OT Assistant colleagues, as well as Social Work colleagues and the extended team of colleagues in Health, Housing, Care and Repair and other agencies.
You will need undergraduate or post graduate experience of working in a team setting and will need effective communication and computer skills, as well as good organisational skills and an understanding of legislation underpinning the provision of services to disabled people.
You will be joining the service during a period of significant change with the integration of health and social care and we need someone who will be positive about change and working in new ways. Therefore, knowledge of recent legislation and local strategies for Health, Housing and Social Work is desirable.
Regular supervision will be with the Senior Practitioner OT and performance and development reviews are in place, as well as the opportunity to further develop post graduate knowledge, skills and experience.
You must have a recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy and must be registered to practise as an Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
