It is East Lothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be placed on the first point of the salary scale.

The starting grade will be dependent on MRTPI status. Applicants will be assessed against the relevant criteria dependent on whether they have MRTPI status, and the associated duties will also be grade dependent. If the successful applicant does not have MRTPI status on appointment but subsequently achieves this, then they will be paid at the higher grade and undertake the associated higher graded duties.

Salary for Non MRTPI - £23340 - £25512 (Grade 7)
Salary with MRTPI - £29509 - £33250 (Grade 9)

These posts are within the Policy & Strategy and Planning Delivery (Development Management) teams of the Planning Service, recruited under the same generic Planner job description which provides the flexibility to experience all planning workstreams. Appointments will be made subject to relevant qualifications, knowledge and experience. This is an exciting time to be joining the East Lothian Planning Service, with the following key workstreams:

Planning and Delivery - major housing applications; business applications; householder applications and clearing legacy applications.

Policy & Strategy - examination of the proposed Local Development Plan and proposed Strategic Development Plan 2; mapping and document presentation; supplementary guidance and supplementary planning guidance; site development briefs; LDP Action Programme; Town Centre Strategies; Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans.

There is on-going review of the service to meet the current and future demands of significant development in the area and in IT skills, particularly Uniform administration.

Job Details

To contribute to the delivery of the Local and Strategic Development plans and policies and, where appropriate, to the delivery of a high quality development management service compliant with relevant legislation and performance standards.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Grade 9: 
Honours Degree in Planning or equivalent and be able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through previous experience. Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Grade 7:
Honours Degree, Diploma or equivalent in Town Planning or a related discipline.

For both of the above a full current driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.*

This post involves accessing the public services network, therefore the preferred candidate will be subject to the Baseline Personnel Security Standards (BPSS).
