West Lothian Council’s Criminal and Youth Justice Service are looking to recruit a qualified Social Worker to work on a full time, permanent basis within the service.
The post is based with the Youth Justice Team; however the successful candidate will be expected to work across the wider Criminal and Youth Justice Service to meet the demands of the service. The Youth Justice Team is responsible for assessing risk, need and planning for young people who offend from 8-21 years old.
The post also involves the supervision of Court Orders, Compulsory Supervision Orders (CSO) via the Children’s Hearing with the successful candidate being expected to manage a diverse, complex and challenging caseload. It is essential that the candidate has a recognised Professional Social Work qualification. The candidate must be prepared to work with young people who exhibit sexually harmful and violent behaviours.
The key duties of this post are:Required to have a working knowledge of Social Work legislation and specific legislation frameworks relevant to the client group. Required to have a working knowledge of Council policies and strategic planning objectives. Awareness of the needs and resources of the local community. Complexity of holding together a wide range of identified care and risk management needs, e.g. health, education, culture. Complexity of matching identified needs to resources. Must ensure accurate case recordings, case notes, etc. are fully maintained and that reports are completed within relevant timescales
The skills and experience you must have:BA in Social Work or other approved recognised Professional Social Work qualification Previous experience of work with offenders/young people and their families either pre or post qualification Good understanding of the challenges of the client group
This position requires registration with the SSSC. The successful candidate will have six months from commencement in this post to register with the SSSC
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
