The appointment will be on a 2 year fixed term basis. It is anticipated that you will work on average 3 days per month. You will be largely home-based although however travel will be required to attend the Committee and associated meetings
£250 per day (non-pensionable) plus work related travel expenses and subsistence at agreed rates. Up to 40 days per annum
West Lothian Public Protection Committee was established in April 2016 to provide strong and consistent leadership for partner agencies involved in Public Protection. Public Protection encompasses some of the most critical areas of work for service areas, including Child Protection; Adult Support & Protection; Violence against Women & Girls and Offender Management (MAPPA).
The current Chair’s tenure has now ended and the West Lothian Chief Officers are seeking to appoint a new Chair. This is a key strategic role with significant opportunities to work in partnership with multi agency partners to shape overall service delivery.
You will Chair the Public Protection Committee which meets on a quarterly basis. Reporting to the Chief Officers’ Group you will provide the Committee with effective leadership and direction in carrying out its core business functions. You will ensure that the work of the Committee is integrated and has close links with relevant strategic and operational structures at both a local and national level. You will provide the Chief Officers’ Group with regular reports on the performance of local multi-agency Public Protection services.
You should have extensive professional experience of working within the area of public protection- including extensive experience of chairing complex/professional multi-agency meetings at a senior level. You should have detailed knowledge and understanding of public sector governance and an ability to demonstrate leadership skills at a strategic management level. A sound understanding of self-evaluation and ability to carry forward a complex partnership agenda is also required.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
