Marine Harvest (Scotland) Limited are seeking an Oceanographer to assist with processing and analysing oceanographic data, primarily current meter and wave buoy data, collected by the company at its farm sites. The post holder will also run computer models, including hydrodynamic models and the aquaculture deposition model DEPOMOD. The position may also involve applying for and maintaining the required licences and authorisations for marine and freshwater salmon production facilities. This involves using and interpreting environmental data, running modelling packages, preparing the licence applications, and liaising with stakeholders, regulators and local communities.
Candidates will be educated to degree level or above in a relevant marine science field. Some experience analysing oceanographic data and/or running computer models would be preferable. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, results-driven individual. The role makes an essential contribution to the success of the Companies Environment Team. Knowledge of the aquaculture industry is preferential but not essential.
