Project Manager - Design Team

Location: Inverness

Salary: up to £50,539 depending on skills and experience + car

Permanent – Full Time Hours

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks forms part of the FTSE-50 energy company, SSE. Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of Scotland and Central Southern England. Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

Our Central Design team sits within Strategic Investments, and holds design responsibility for the upgrade of substations, overhead lines and cables on voltages up to and including 33,000 volts. The team are based in various locations across Scotland, and we have an opportunity for a Project Manager to join us based in Inverness. You and your team, will hold responsibility for design of new primary substations, refurbishment and extension of existing substations, as well as providing services to the regional delivery, customer connection and Distributed Generation teams. The majority of the works will revolve around Primary substations and the assets associated within the substation.

Working closely with your team, you’ll work on designs from inception and initial high level planning, through to detailed scheme drawings, cable and SCADA schedules through to tender and completion. Your projects will also involve relay setting, plant and installation specifications, as well as liaison with third party tenders. As Project Manager, you’ll also ensure all projects and designs are developed in a timely, cost effective, safe and efficient manner.

To ensure you get the most from your role, and our customers receive the highest standard of service, we ask that you have previous experience in a similar design role, ideally for a DNO or a supplier to our industry. A qualification in a relevant field would be a bonus, however equivalent work experience is also great. Your knowledge of appropriate substation design standards will be great, although if you don’t currently have this knowledge, you’ll hold the ability to learn at an accelerated pace. You’ll have a sound understanding of the CDM regulations, and have a keen eye for detail.

Communication across various platforms, and to varying levels of stakeholders, will be a key strength of yours, as will the ability to relay complex messages in an easy to understand manner. Last but not least, IT software is at the core of our day, and whilst we will provide training on all specialised software, we need you to already have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
