GP partnership/ Salaried GP opportunity-
Lochgilphead / Inveraray / Furnace

Since merging with the Inveraray and Furnace Practice in 2015 we have attracted three new partners, an extra practice nurse, a lead nurse and two advanced nurse practitioners (starting August 2017)… BUT we still need an extra hand on deck!
o Are you an enthusiastic GP looking to contribute and provide seamless modern healthcare within an innovative community hospital team?
o Do you relish a challenge?
o Do you value continuity in the care you provide patients?
o Do you enjoy variety?

Life is full of challenges and variety working as a GP in Lochgilphead. As well as familiar GP GMS provision, we are based within The Mid-Argyll Community Hospital and Integrated Care Centre providing the emergency, acute inpatient and longer-term care for a large geographical area (approx 400 sq miles) in stunning Argyll, 2 hrs north west of Glasgow.

Our total practice population is around 7,900 patients, of which around 1,200 are served by Inveraray and Furnace Surgeries. We are seeking a GP keen to work as part of a large integrated team in primary care, and within our active community hospital. The new practitioner would be based in Lochgilphead and will, as a part of the rota, be required to consult in the Inveraray or Furnace surgeries as well.

We are presently a team of 6 partners and several long-term locums. We enjoy working in large multidisciplinary teams. We are well supported in the A and E environment by highly skilled emergency nurse practitioners and radiography services and within the hospital wards patients have good access to physiotherapy, OT, social workers and other health professionals, as we all share one excellent purpose-built facility.

Currently the practice nursing team consists of 5 nurses (including lead nurse), 2 healthcare assistants and a phlebotomist. We have two advanced nurse practitioners and a partner joining in August 2017. The nursing team very ably manage much of the chronic disease workload. The work we do is diverse. As such there are wide ranging skills required. All GPs have completed ATLS and BASICS training. Some have anaesthetics training as well.

We are happy to assist an enthusiastic applicant with training and updates. Indeed, we are very focused on continuous learning and run a course for remote and rural GPs like ourselves twice a year. We might be an ideal practice for GPs who have previously enjoyed a role in A & E or hospital medicine although this is by no means essential.

Working within a small community we generally have no commute to work! There are few of the strains of a more urban existence- no commissioning or private healthcare competitors. Our surgery day starts at 9am and we can get home for 6 without taking work home (unless we are on call!) Home visits are very limited due to our geography. Our on-call is unique in that as well as GMS provision we provide the medical cover to the hospital and A and E blue light receiving. Having said that, the on call overnight and at weekends is provided from home and you usually get plenty of sleep!

Lochgilphead caters for those that enjoy the outdoor life. This is one of the most picturesque areas of Scotland. There are many places and islands to explore. This is a great area for families as well with a very modern joint primary/secondary school campus including a sports centre. There are many local shops and good facilities including a swimming pool. The area is renowned for sailing and the world famous Crinan Canal. There are many clubs and activities for all ages and levels.

We are delighted to consider applicants from all fields of expertise and at all stages of their career. We are happy to consider job sharing, flexible working, and part time contracts. We are keen to include the successful candidate in the out of hours rota.

Please feel free to phone or email with any questions or for a chat with our practice manager, Corinne Cheetham, or any of the partners. We're happy to chat informally and give you a tour of the facilities if desired.
