Job Description

The applicant must be able to undertake vehicle checks ensuring all Health and safety and legal requirements are met.

Ensure individual groups and passengers have a safe and comfortable journey providing necessary guidance and assistance to enable them to use the transport with confidence.

Ensure that any specialist equipment such as passengers lifts wheelchair clamps are operated properly.

Undertake handyperson duties as deemed appropriate.

Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.51 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.

Requirements

Previous driving experience is desirable, current Midas certificate is also desirable but not essential, good communication skills, an ability to problem solve. A knowledge of health and safety required for the safety of the building and be able to carry out physical aspects of the job, previous handyman experience is also desirable but not essential.

Minimum qualifications include:

Communication skills

Full driving licence

Significant driving experience

Ability to deal with emergencies/use initiative

Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme Membership through Disclosure Scotland

Responsibilities

Assisting and settling and securing passengers prior to commencement of journey

Conducting the prescribed vehicle checks, routine maintenance, cleaning and completion of necessary paperwork.

Undertake a range of ancillary duties whilst not driving, appropriate to the type of work being undertaken by the team being serviced.

Operating in a handyperson capacity providing services including portage, minor repairs and maintenance to building, fixtures furnishings and general maintenance of internal and external areas as required.

Undertaking delegated health and safety tasks such as the Fire drill, water and building checks and completing the appropriate recordings/reporting’s.

Holding the appropriate keys for the purpose of entering and leaving premises in which duties are being carried out.

Undertaking all other duties as required for the role will be in line with the grade.

The Individual

Should have the ability to provide a regular and effective service

Ability to relate to varying groups and individuals.

Ability to prioritise workload.

Knowledge of Heath and Safety issues required for the maintenance of vehicles.

Ability to work alone.
