SharePoint is a strategic technology within the firm, providing a central content management platform for our intranet, the focal point for documentation associated with the delivery of client work, general collaboration and an increasing range of internally developed applications.

The platform has been in place in the firm for over 10 years, it is embedded and widely adopted. With our enterprise wide Office 365 subscription we now see significant opportunities to leverage the latest “productivity suite” offerings from Microsoft through incremental migration to SharePoint Online along with capabilities such as Office, Yammer, Teams, Flow and PowerApps.

The firm is seeking a professional who can influence and execute the functional road map for SharePoint, working closely with product owners in the business to achieve our vision of maximising the value of our partnership with Microsoft. This is an opportunity for a technically gifted individual, with prior experience developing on SharePoint, looking to advance their career by playing a pivotal role in helping the firm to leverage our SharePoint investment further, and to drive adoption of Office365.

The candidate will work as a member of the firm's Business Applications: a team of technology professionals who manage the firm's core suite of business applications - this includes developing, administering, supporting and training staff on platforms such as Dynamics CRM, Skype for Business, Office and SharePoint, with a growing emphasis on Office365.

The Business Applications team sits within IT and therefore has access to the wider breadth and depth of experience within the department. The IT department is a well-respected, dynamic organisation that delivers industry leading technology services to the firm. It is an exciting time for the team with our Microsoft centric, hybrid Cloud strategy enabling us to increasingly harness the power of Cloud offerings (Office365 and Azure) to deliver solutions to the business.

Role Description

  • This role is targeted at a Microsoft SharePoint technical professional with ambition, who is looking to expand their skills in Office365, with the opportunity to influence and deliver key elements of the firm's technology vision.

  • The candidate will further develop the on-premise SharePoint platform whilst playing a key role in the incremental adoption of the Office365 “productivity suite”, with an objective of migrating to SharePoint to the cloud and exploiting capabilities such as Office, Yammer, Teams, Flow and PowerApps.

  • SharePoint is pivotal to the firm's technology strategy and plays a key role alongside other Microsoft technologies such as Dynamics CRM, Exchange and Active Directory in supporting the end to end client lifecycle, operational effectiveness and collaboration.This role will require close collaboration with individuals in the wider IT team who manage these platforms to ensure we achieve an integrated solution.

  • The role is concerned with extracting maximum value from the firm's partnership with Microsoft, day to day activity will therefore be focused on the delivery of new features, including design, development, testing and implementation. In some cases, this may involve working with business analysts, developers and testers from the wider technology community within the firm. The vision is that the successful candidate will jointly own the overall functional architecture for SharePoint and the wider “productivity suite” on Office365 with other members of the Business Applications team.

  • The successful candidate will also provide firm-wide day to day support for the SharePoint / Office365 environment, alongside other members of the team, by trouble-shooting issues, performing maintenance and proactively managing risks.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical thought leadership to ensure we are making best use of the Microsoft “productivity suite” and other integrated systems. Key to this is influencing the incremental migration to the cloud through Office365.

  • Liaising with internal customers (Product Owners) to design and implement new enterprise solutions based on the platform provided by the Microsoft “productivity suite”.

  • Facilitating wider integration with key business applications including CRM Dynamics, Exchange and Active Directory.

  • Identifying, deploying and using plug-ins and third party tools that deliver added value.

  • Acting as the lead on the development of the Microsoft “productivity suite” working with the Business Applications Manager to prioritize work as an integrated part of managing the backlog for the whole Business Applications team.

  • Managing risks to ensure a reliable and controlled service delivery and compliance with ISO security requirements.

  • Providing second line support and troubleshooting issues for the Microsoft “productivity suite” and other third-party tools e.g. Repstor Affinity.

  • Conducting research to identify opportunities to leverage new functionality within the released by Microsoft.

  • Maintaining documentation and other technical artefacts including: test script creation, configuration and customisation documentation, data migration scripts, systems integration maps.

  • Training and coaching the wider Business Applications team to ensure that technical knowledge relating to the Microsoft “productivity suite” is distributed where it is needed to support the business.

Qualifications and experience

  • IT- related degree or equivalent work related experience.

  • Strong software development experience on Microsoft SharePoint 2013 and above, including the SharePoint App model, SharePoint PnP (Patterns and Practices) and an awareness of the new SharePoint Framework for Office 365.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite 2013 and above.

  • Experience 3rd party office / outlook add-ins.

  • Experience of SQL Database 2012 and higher.

  • Experience with Office365 or a strong desire to develop skills in this area.

  • Excellent software development lifecycle skills.
