An exciting opportunity has arisen within our recently restructured learning disability service to support adults at home and in the community, some of whom have complex care and support needs.
Working within our Housing Support Services, you will be part of a highly motivated team delivering unique person-centred services planned in partnership with the supported person, their family, carers and other stakeholders. Based in the Castle Douglas area, you will support people to meet their personal outcomes, for example by promoting personal development, independence, health and wellbeing, and participation. Opportunities to work across other parts of our services, for example in our short breaks or day opportunities services, may also arise in future.
You must be prepared to work flexibly to deliver support at times that meet the needs of the Supported Person and this could involve day and evening support, weekends, sleepovers and/or waking nights.
You will promote and adhere to the Scottish Government’s new Health & Social Care Standards, ‘The keys to Life’, Scotland's learning disability strategy focussing on improving the quality of life for people with learning disabilities and ‘The Charter for Involvement ‘(National Involvement Network, Association for Real Change, Scotland).
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
You will have a relevant qualification in Health & Social Care i.e. SVQ Level II or equivalent.
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/ or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
