About the Role

Within this role in the Finance and Logistics Directorate you will be supporting the fast paced and busy Procurement team. The Procurement team is responsible for purchasing all goods and services within the Scottish Ambulance Shared Procurement Service (SASPS). Initially you will undertake general administrative duties which will ensure the successful and smooth running of the department. You will be supported to learn and develop, and your responsibilities will grow as you become more confident in the procurement process and your knowledge of the Finance and Logistics Directorate and SASPS. Day to day you will be handling customer enquiries and conducting low value quick quotes as well as administering the SASPS Contracts Register.

At the same time you will be supported to undertake the SVQ Level 3 in Procurement.

About the Scottish Ambulance Service

The Scottish Ambulance Service responds to around 1.8 million calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance each year and attends nearly 700,000 emergency and unscheduled incidents. Of these over 500,000 are emergencies. We transfer around 90,000 patients between hospitals each year and respond to over 150,000 urgent requests for admission, transfer and discharge from GPs and hospitals.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has its own procurement team based in Edinburgh. The Procurement Team buys a wide range of Service-specific goods and services. For products used in common with other parts of the NHS, the Service collaborates with the rest of the NHS in Scotland and buys from contracts awarded by NHS National Procurement. The Service also uses other Scottish or UK framework contracts where available to achieve best value, for example Scottish Procurement or the Crown Commercial Service.

The Service’s Procurement Team also provides a procurement services to Health Scotland and Healthcare Improvement Scotland on a shared service basis.

About You

To qualify you must have:

Minimum of five National 5 qualifications (to include Math’s and English)

In addition you must also have a professional attitude to work, good written and spoken communication skills, good team working skills and have a strong attention to detail.

This is a two year fixed term post as a Modern Apprentice and this position will comply with the Scottish Living Wage for the term of the contract.
