Providing an effective Social Work Service to vulnerable adults, children and their families in line with Council policy and national standards.
Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.51 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.Requirements
Diploma in Social Work or equivalent
An accredited post-qualifying award (e.g. Certificate in Child Protection Studies, Mental Health Officer Accreditation, Practice Teacher Award, etc.)
Significant post-qualifying experience and an accredited post-qualifying training award (see attached list) or willingness to work towards post-qualifying award within 2 years.
The pattern of working hours will be determined for individual remits and on occasions may include evenings and weekends. There will be a requirement to attend meetings outwith normal working hours, when necessary, subject to service user and staff availability.
There will also be a requirement to attend outwith normal working hours for development, training, registration compliance etc when necessary.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland, in addition to which registration with the Scottish Social Services Council is essential.Responsibilities
To provide mentoring and support of newly qualified social workers and social work assistants within area teams.
To carry a caseload of children and families cases.
To oversee the development of thorough and informed assessments of cases in order to provide logical and coherently presented recommendations for further action designed to enable children to remain with their birth families wherever this is in their best interests.
To oversee the development of permanent high quality alternative care plans if remaining at home is not appropriate.
Contribute to the development of a high quality professional Children and Families Service.
Reduce levels of risk to service users and others.
Undertake assessment of need and risk as directed by the Line Manager.
Contribute to complex assessments of need and risk.
Contribute to/development of care/action plans.
Maintain service user/carer contact as required.
Promoting/maintaining independence and inclusion.
Participate and chair in multi-agency meetings as required.
Work in collaboration with partners e.g. Health Service, Education, Police and voluntary sector agencies.
Achieve the objective within Social Work Service improvement plan in terms of performance, people, partnerships and promotion of equal opportunities.
Improve the outcomes for service users.
Promote the interests of service users and carers in terms of rights, opportunities, culture and diversity.
Ensuring that service users receive an outcome focussed service.
Ensuring that risk assessment and risk management are central to achieving good outcomes.
Ensure that all interventions and engagement with service users contribute to improving outcomes.
Application of knowledge and judgement.The Individual
Considerable experience in a relevant setting
Knowledge and understanding of Child and Adult Protection guidelines and information sharing protocols
Experience of joint working to achieve common goals
Significant post-qualifying experience providing statutory social work services
Knowledge of service policies and procedures and resources
Evidence of ability to promote equality and diversity
Ability to interpret data and analyse information
Skills in negotiating, problem solving, communication, report writing and use of IT
Awareness and understanding of the role of carers and families and the impact this may have on health and well-being
Effective writing and verbal skills
Ability to communicate and present information clearly within a variety of settings
Knowledge of professional practice models and standards
Knowledge, skills and experience of utilising a variety of interventions in working with groups and individuals
Commitment to service user participation principles
Demonstrable capacity to operate at senior level, with complex cases, providing an expert professional service
Ability to travel throughout Fife
