The purpose of the Youth Worker role is to engage effectively with young people in their own communities and to contribute towards their learning and development by using a range of educational practices and approaches.

Fife Council pays the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate to employees earning less than £8.51 per hour. If the hourly rate of pay for the post is less than the Scottish Local Government Living Wage Rate a supplement will be paid.


Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain PVG scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland.


Youth workers support young people on an individual and group basis to:

realise their potential and to overcome the many challenges and barriers that young people face in life, build their self-esteem and self-confidence, consider risk, make reasoned choices and take control of their own lives develop a ‘world view’ which widens horizons and invites social commitment build the capacity of young people through the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills. Must be prepared to undertake and complete core training as a requirement of the post within 1 year of appointment.

Skills and Experience:

Ability to engage positively with groups of young people Awareness of young people’s issues and development needs. Ability to act as a positive role model to young people. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team Good organisational skills Must be good time-keeper and reliable, and prepared to work flexibly
