Dunbar Grammar is a six-year, fully inclusive, comprehensive, non-denominational and co-educational school. It serves the town of Dunbar and the surrounding area. It is one of six secondary schools in East Lothian. The present building was opened in 1961 and is situated in an attractive site in the centre of Dunbar. It has spacious playground areas and a games field within the school grounds.
The school has been completely redeveloped as part of East Lothian Council's Private and Public Partnership scheme and as a result boasts excellent facilities, including a Games Hall, Fitness Room, Drama Studio and Recording Studio.
The associated primary schools are Dunbar PS, West Barn's PS, Stenton PS, Innerwick PS and East Linton PS.
The school roll in September 2016 was 847 but due to extensive building work in Dunbar and the surrounding area this is likely to grow substantially over the next few years. The present teaching complement is around 67.
At Dunbar Grammar we believe that every child has a gift in at least one area of the curriculum. The challenge facing us as teachers is to allow children the opportunity to discover and develop that gift.
To provide an administrative, clerical, reception and information support to the school through a range of tasks carried out within well-defined regulations.
