Job Description

**These are part time term-time post and the salary will be pro rata to the number of hours worked.**

Vacancies have arisen for catering assistants within schools in the Dumbarton and Alexandria areas. The post holders will require to assist in the day today operational requirements of the catering service within the Schools. You can select your preferred locations when you are completing your application.

Duties will include assisting in basic food preparation and service of all foods in compliance with the Nutritional Requirements for Food and Drinks in Schools (Scotland) regulations 2008 and other relevant legislation and standards as required. Duties also include setting up and clearing away equipment for food service and general cleaning to a high standard of the crockery, cutlery, kitchen utensils, kitchen and dining room areas, staff rest room and toilets.

The post holders will require to adhere to Food Safety Standards, Safe Systems of Work and Health and Safety Legislation. A knowledge of such legislation would be an advantage, as would previous experience in this type of work. It is essential that applicants hold an elementary food hygiene certificate or similar qualification.

The successful candidates should be able to work on their own initiative as well as part of a team.

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007 and as such membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here.

Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer being made by West Dunbartonshire Council.

Responsibilities

The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which for other purposes are "spent" under the provisions of the Act. In the event of employment any failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
