Casual Social Work Assistant
£12.43 Per Hour
Criminal Justice Social Work provides a social work service to individuals who have offended, who have appeared before the criminal courts and who are subject to supervision in the community as conditions of Court Orders or Post Custody Licence. As part of the Children, Young People & Lifelong Learning (CYPLL) Department we are partners in the protection of children and vulnerable adults.
In the broader Public Protection arena, we are partners in the management of high risk offenders through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA).
We currently have a need to recruit to our pool of casual Social Work Assistants to assist in the supervision and support of individuals subject to statutory orders/ Licences and who are managed under the MAPPA risk management arrangements.
Building strong, consistent and trusting relationships is at the heart of our approach to working with individuals in the criminal justice system. We build relationships that motivate and encourage service users to talk about and solve problems, overcome practical obstacles and creating opportunities for change. We balance this with appropriate and proportionate restrictive measures to assist individuals over time to be better in control of their own risk management.
You will work as part of a tightly managed team to provide support, supervision and monitoring of individuals to ensure an appropriate balance in meeting the resettlement/rehabilitation needs of the individual and the risk management needs of protecting the public. You will require to have good personal and professional skills and an ability to relate effectively to service users, their families, and to a range of other agencies.
You will have a demonstrable knowledge of and commitment to Criminal Justice Social Work and will have relevant experience in an associated field of work.
Weekend and evening work is a requirement of this post.
A current UK driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
