East Lothian Council invite applications from fully registered teachers for this exciting new class teacher position. You will deliver a new Foundation Apprenticeship course in Social Services, Children and Young People for S4-S6 pupils from across our 6 secondary schools.
East Lothian Council are delighted to be working in partnership with Skills Development Scotland to deliver 9 exciting Foundation Apprenticeships for S4 and S5 pupils in our schools, and one of the first to be introduced is Social Services, Children and Young People.
The Foundation Apprenticeships are at the same level of learning as a Higher (SCQF level 6) and will take a pupil two years to complete. As pupils are working towards their qualification they will attend class based teaching and workshop sessions at Ross High School and undertake placements within local early learning and childcare settings.
The course entry requirement will be National 5 English working towards Higher and will include learning in areas such as Safeguarding of Children & Young People, Promoting the Safety and Wellbeing of Children & Young People, Play for Children & Young People and Supporting Effective Communication.
The course could lead pupils on to various options, for example: Modern Apprenticeship in Early Learning and Childcare, HNC Childhood Practice or to a University course.
The successful applicant for this role will have broad teaching experience to include recent and relevant knowledge of early learning and childcare. Ideally the candidate will have worked with secondary aged pupils in a relevant setting. In addition you will be required to deliver a National Progression Award (NPA) Social Services (Children and Young People) during year one – working in partnership with the early years team from the Scottish training provider ‘Training for Care’ who will be responsible for the SVQ2 Social Services (Children and Young People) element of the course during the second year.

Subject to the policies of the school and the education authority the duties of teachers, promoted and unpromoted, are to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher shall direct having reasonable regard to overall teacher workload related to the following categories-
Teaching assigned classes together with associated preparation and correction
Developing the school curriculum
Assessing, recording and reporting on the work of pupils
Preparing pupils for examinations and assisting with their administration
Providing advice and guidance to pupils on issues related to their education
Promoting and safeguarding the health, welfare and safety of pupils
Working in partnership with parents, support staff and other professionals
Undertaking appropriate and agreed continuing professional development
Participating in issues related to school planning, raising achievement and individual review
Contributing towards good order and the wider needs of the school

Registered with GTCS as a teacher of relevant subject
