We are seeking a personal assistant to support and enable a young man with autism and learning disability within the community of Islay and various social settings as well as within his home environment.
The Personal Assistant will develop a quality personal relationship with the young man which is trusting, supportive, enabling and life enhancing.
The Personal Assistant has the responsibility to assume control and be assertive in circumstances where the safety and best interests of the young man may be compromised.
The role of a Personal Assistant is complex and can be physically, emotionally and intellectually demanding and challenging. Successful practice demands a level of fitness, excellent communication skills, maturity, creativity, energy, common sense and attention to detail.
The job is a full time post (37.5 hours per week) and involves working Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm and on occasions evening and weekend work is required.
In summary the job is about supporting the young man in helping to develop and maintain a fulfilling, varied, valued and socially-inclusive lifestyle and this can be a fun and extremely rewarding choice of occupation for the right person.
Previous experience in working with young people with autism and/or learning disability is desirable but not essential as full training and support will be provided and full supervision will be given until the PA feels fully confident to support the young man 1:1.
A clean driving licence is essential for this post and a car will be provided.
This an excepted post as per Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exceptions) (Scotland) Order 2013.
