We are seeking a personal assistant to support and enable a young man with autism within the general community of Islay where he is known, in various social settings and within his home environment.

The Personal Assistant will develop a quality personal relationship with the young man which is trusting, supportive, enabling and life enhancing.

The Personal Assistant has the responsibility to assume control and be directive in circumstances where the safety and best interests of the young man may be compromised.

The role of a Personal Assistant is complex and can be physically, emotionally and intellectually demanding and challenging. Successful practice demands excellent communication skills, maturity, creativity, energy, common sense and attention to detail.

The job is a full time post (37.5 hours per week) and involves working Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am and 5pm and on occasions evening and weekend work.In summary the job is about supporting the young man in helping to develop and maintain a fulfilling, varied, valued and socially-inclusive lifestyle including within his family environment.

A car will be provided during working hours.

Rates of pay are determined by Argyll and Bute Council Direct Payments Scheme and this can be discussed upon application.

Driving Licence essential

PVG Memebership (can be arranged upon successful application)

Excellent Communications Skills

Previous experience in working with young peope with autism desirable but full training will be provided.
