The Emergency Support Team provides short term assessment, intensive support and intervention for families in crisis where there is risk of family or placement breakdown. The team work a shift system to ensure that where appropriate crisis support is available during the evening and weekend. Workers will work with a small numbers of families for 3 weeks, however this is flexible depending on the needs of the family and the workers assessment.
The Emergency Support Team is part of a wider strategy to ensure that families in Fife get the right support at a time when it is needed most. The team will work creatively with families to provide short term crisis support with a view to prevent family breakdown and unplanned/ short term admissions to care. The role of the team will be to work to stabilise a situation with a view to informing a plan for transition to longer term intensive supports if required.

You will undertake a short term assessment of cases in order to provide support and intervention to stabilise a crisis situation for families and young people across Fife.
You will provide focused and flexible support to families, working creatively to stabilise a young person’s home situation utilising a strengths based, solution focused approach reflecting the principles of GIRFEC.
You will develop and deliver specific programmes of work with young people and their families with the aim of reducing challenging or risk taking behaviour that have led to a crisis situation.
You will contribute to the development of short term support and safety plans with families, with particular focus on supporting family decision making and promoting networks of support.
You will work closely with colleagues in area teams and partner agencies to progress a transition alternative, planned supports in a timely manner using the wellbeing pathway. You will not be managing any cases, however will work alongside an allocated Social Worker.
You will produce an analytical assessment of your involvement, highlighting any ongoing risk and concerns as well as making recommendations regarding ongoing supports. These will be shared with families, Social Workers and other relevant parties.
You will work a shift rota which involves evening and weekend working.
Before confirming appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.The Individual
Diploma in Social Work or equivalent.
The role is suited to an individual who enjoys direct work with young people and families within the local community.
Considerable experience in a relevant setting either dealing with crisis or working with children, young people and their families.
Need to be able to travel throughout Fife.
Knowledge and understanding of Child and Adult Protection guidelines and information sharing protocols.
Experience of joint working to achieve common goals.
