Salaried GP, Mallaig & Arisaig Medical Practice An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Salaried GP to join our remote and rural West Highland General Practice. We are keen to hear from a GP who would like to work part-time in a flexible manner. The working pattern is all day Monday, half-day Tuesday & half-day Wednesday, and alternate full-day Fridays. In addition you will work ten full weeks' per year, singlehanded, providing holiday cover for the GP Partner. This will average out at five sessions per week over the year. The Mallaig & Arisaig Medical Practice provides care to 1800 permanent patients and our care responsibilities extend to temporary residents who visit the area. Our Practice is based in the port of Mallaig. The Practice area extends north to the Knoydart peninsula (accessible only by boat), and south through the villages of Morar and Arisaig to the communities in Lochailort & Roshven and on to the village of Glenuig. You will provide undifferentiated front-line Primary Care, and need to be robust and stress tolerant. Working days are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with no OOH, but sessions are available in the local OOH rota from Belford Hospital. You will be part of a two GP team, but will sometimes work single-handed; the frequency of this depends upon your agreed working rota. We work in a NHS-owned Health Centre in the village of Mallaig. We share the building with the Community Nursing Team and work very closely with them. We have one part-time Health Care Assistant and one part-time Practice Nurse. Our Admin Team is experienced and excellent. We have visiting Allied Professionals who are based in Fort William, which is less than an hour's drive away. The Belford Hospital in Fort William is our nearest District General Hospital and provides General Medical and General Surgery services, and an A&E unit. Experience of Rural General Practice would be very beneficial, as would previous A&E exposure. Salary is dependent upon the working pattern agreed but will be in line with the standard salaried GP remuneration. Holidays are eight weeks per year (six weeks annual leave plus two weeks public holidays) with an additional one week of study leave. The post is eligible for a £10,000 Golden Hello and an additional £5,000 relocation package. This job would suit a GP who wishes to provide high quality care to a vibrant traditional West Coast fishing & crofting community, and who can see the benefits of a flexible working pattern, which provides a good work-life balance. Please direct all enquiries to Dr Iain Gartshore, iaingartshore@nhs.net We encourage you to arrange an informal visit if you are interested. The start date is negotiable for the right candidate. Closing date is Friday 31st August 2018.
