16 hours per week salary pro rata to hours worked

As part of the care home staff, you will provide practical support in the day to day running of the care home. This may include household cleaning, undertaking laundry duties or (after appropriate training) providing assistance in the kitchen under the direction of senior kitchen staff. We are looking for a motivated person with a flexible approach to work. Previous experience is not essential but there is an expectation that training will be undertaken.

The key duties of this post are:

The Care Home Assistant may undertake varied tasks in relation to general cleaning and laundry work, as well as providing assistance with catering tasks (following appropriate training). The deployment of staff will be determined by the senior member of staff on duty and needs of the service, which may vary from time to time. The Care Home Assistant will encourage service users to be actively assist in managing their own laundry/ catering and cleaning requirements to promote their independence, consistent with the service users abilities and in consultation with senior care staff. To ensure that all procedures are undertaken following procedure and policies laid down by the Council and the standards deemed by the Care Commission. To ensure the safety and welfare of service users is paramount. To take appropriate responsibility for the implementation of Council policy on health, safety and welfare at work to ensure in conjunction with the appropriate senior staff that the terms of the Health and Safety at Work Act and associated regulations are observed within the Home.

The skills and experience you must have are:

Certificated Food Hygiene training will be provided before employees would be able to undertake kitchen duties.

Shift rotas are in operation.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council.
