This is a fantastic opportunity to join our fleet maintenance team, based in East Scotland. You will play an important role in leading, managing and developing one/a cluster of our key strategic Fleet Workshops.

 

About the role As a Workshop Manager you will be accountable for the performance of your area and for leading a team of circa 12 to 55 vehicle technicians. You will be responsible for leading the team through transformational change and championing Continuous Improvement.

 

The Royal Mail Fleet vision is ‘To deliver first class fleet services across the UK’. In order to deliver this vision, our fleet workshops have opened their doors to the external commercial industry and the business has begun the biggest transformation of its kind by expanding into new competitive markets. With this transformation comes the need for the UK workshop network to begin a significant cultural and performance transformation which sees them operate commercially with profit and loss accounts, deal directly with external and internal customers and have the accountability to drive critical improvements in performance and efficiency.

 

You will be accountable for the performance of the Fleet Workshops in your designated geographical area, with specific accountability for profit generation, delivering performance against all key maintenance scorecard indicators including safety, legal, stakeholder and cost performance measures, including commercial income. You will play a pivotal role in the transformation and success of the Fleet business and will accountable for developing and leading a team through change successfully.

 

About you You will be an experienced performance manager with first line management experience in a similar environment, have strong leadership skills and the ability to deliver results through people. You will have experience working with key stakeholders and driving change. Having relevant industry experience and knowledge of dispersed maintenance operations (or similar dispersed manufacturing, network, utility/ logistics/service organisations) you will also have experience in leading such teams through change and continuous improvement and a proven track record of growing a business.

 

You will have accountability to drive profit based performance through managing commercially and for the achievement of all agreed targets through the use of effective performance management techniques and provide visible and effective leadership for Fleet Workshops teams and support staff. Having excellent data analyst skills  you will also have a good level of excel experience as well as financial acumen along with the ability to influence, build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders.

 

Having knowledge of compliance requirements for vehicles and road transport legislation would be advantageous. A CPC, IOSH or Professional Motor Vehicle qualification or similar would be desirable.
