Chair of the Board
Developing the Young Workforce West Highland is seeking a new Chair for its Board and would welcome applications from the private sector to take the group forward into the next exciting phase of its development.
DYW West Highland is a Scottish Government programme hosted by Lochaber Chamber of Commerce and is based in Fort William. The aim of DYW is to reduce youth unemployment and help young people in each local area get the right skills and experiences to move from education into employment. The programme is designed to be employer-led to bring businesses and education closer together.
The Board of the DYW West Highland regional group draws together individuals with a wide range of experiences. As Chair of the regional Board, you will bring your expertise and skills used in business and in the community to play a key role in ensuring that the governing Board works effectively. The Chair will lead the board regionally and represent DYW West Highland at national level. The quarterly DYW Chairs’ meetings are typically held in Glasgow or Edinburgh.
As a passionate advocate you will champion the DYW message, to help employers shape the future workforce of the West Highlands and help better prepare young people for the world of work.
The commitment is an average of 7+ hours a month. Most Board meetings take place in the late afternoon and meetings will have physical presence in each of the three constituent areas in Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross. There will be an opportunity to video conference into meetings, if required.
This post offers a rare opportunity to use your experience in industry to help shape the careers of young people and to network at the highest levels in industry and education in Scotland.
The post is not remunerated but out of pocket expenses will be paid.
