We have an exciting opportunity for a Roads Officer to join a flexible team of professionals in delivering a high quality service within East Lothian Council Roads Services team. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has knowledge and experience in the design and maintenance of surface water drainage systems and to assist with the operation of an Asset Management System with a view to optimising our resource and ensuring we maintain our surface water drainage systems in line with the Code of Practice. You will also be required to assess, review, prioritise, prepare orders and supervise drainage improvement works on site by the internal labour force and or external contractors ensuring works are completed in accordance with contract documentation and best practice.

 The candidate will need to be confident with good verbal and written communication skills who can quickly establish good working relationships. You will also need to be IT proficient as digital technology is used daily as part of the role. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of Technical staff and will engage with a wide and diverse audience (Technical and non-Technical) as well as members of the public. 

 It is expected that the individual will be suitably educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience. You will be working within an office environment and will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within beautiful East Lothian. You will need to have an ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service. To assist and support the delivery and development of a full range of Road services, maximising efficiency of service delivery within specific standards and approved budgets and in compliance with the Council’s obligations as the local Roads Authority and its policies and plans with a commitment to achieve best value.

Job Requirments

Relevant Qualifications

Educated to HNC/SVQ Level 2 in Civil Engineering or related discipline and/or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and competencies gained through relevant experience.

Driving Licence

As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.*

This post involves accessing the public services network, therefore the preferred candidate will be subject to the Baseline Personnel Security Standards (BPSS).
