Social Work Resources are committed to providing services for children, young people, families, adults and older people who are in need of care and protection.

South Lanarkshire Council has been successful securing funding from the Scottish Government to deliver the Caledonian System. The Caledonian System is an integrated way of working to address the risks associated with the perpetrator of domestic abuse. The system has three elements: a men’s service, a women service and a children support service. South Lanarkshire Council is required to deliver on all three elements in the programme. The men’s service provides a two year programme comprising of 14 one to one sessions, pre-group preparatory sessions and 25 group work sessions. The work also includes contents related to understanding the harm that is caused and what approaches can be adopted to change behaviours. Over a 17 month period the men’s programme aims to support 70 men subject to Community Payback Orders, 50 women and 75 children affected by domestic abuse. 

We are recruiting for two full time Social Workers for 17 months within Children and Justice Services to provide a professional service to our client groups. Funding for delivery of the Caledonian System has been awarded for a 17 month period however; the successful candidate will be recruited on a permanent contract to work within South Lanarkshire Council Justice Services. We would welcome applications from registered Social Workers who have experience of delivering justice services and/or groupwork programmes.


 

Requirements

You will work as an effective member of the Children and Justice Services, helping us to make a positive difference in the Community. We are looking for an experienced social worker who has sound knowledge of managing risks and delivering justice services. You will provide an effective assessment and case management service incorporating any relevant statutory duties across South Lanarkshire.. You will be required to prepare Criminal Justice Social Work Reports for Courts, Supervise Community Payback Orders and Licences, deliver a men’s groupwork programme, link with public protection bodies, and carry out risk assessments and effective management of impact of domestic abuse on individuals and their families. All duties will be carried out in line with the South Lanarkshire Council’s policies and Caledonian System requirements. The role requires occasional involvement in evening work. You will be afforded opportunities to undertake Caledonian System training and support in line with the Social Work Resources’ continuous improvement commitments.

You will act as a Social Worker and undertake casework involving partnership working and provide professional advice and guidance to individuals, families and groups within the community. You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to complete all formal, informal reports and case notes which need to be of a high standard.

In addition, you should be able to demonstrate an ability to relate to people of all ages and backgrounds and be able to gain their trust, in order to help them get the best from our services. You should be able to deal with a variety of situations where your tact, patience and understanding will be needed. You will need to assess and cope with these situations in a sensitive and non-judgmental way. All applicants must be registered or in the process of registering with Scottish Social Services Council and hold Degree in Social Work qualification or equivalent. 

 

Responsibilities

Candidates should be able to detail any gaps in employment and provide a foreign police check where applicable for any periods living or working abroad.

This post is excepted in terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 2003.

The successful candidate will be subject to a criminal records check provided by Disclosure Scotland. 

This post is considered Regulated Work with Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Therefore, it is an offence to apply if you are barred from working with adults. 

Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by South Lanarkshire Council.
