In our recent inspection the following areas were highlighted as key strengths in our work: • Caring and supportive relationships across the school support a climate of mutual respect and a purposeful learning environment. This is underpinned by the school’s values of ‘order, respect, care, achievement’. The revised house structure is enhancing young people’s sense of belonging and improving communication and involvement with families. • Young people are attaining well in National Qualifications. There are a commendable number of courses leading to Advanced Higher. Collaborative working with parents and partners is resulting in achievement of a range of National Qualifications for young people requiring additional support with their learning. • The school is developing an innovative approach to raising attainment in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Young people are enthusiastically undertaking STEM projects in their own time. They are developing key skills and enhancing their knowledge of potential future careers in STEM industries. • Teachers work well with their colleagues to develop their practices and improve outcomes for young people. As a result, young people’s learning experiences are enhanced by an improving range of approaches to learning and teaching. The School is situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland on the southern edge of Callander and is the only secondary school in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park renowned for its natural beauty, mountains, lochs and glens. The stunning grandeur of Ben Ledi stands above the open farmland along the River Teith. Following a major programme of new build and refurbishment, pupils and staff benefit from excellent facilities for learning and teaching. Within Callander and the National Park there is a thriving activity tourism scene. Stroll on the loch shore at sunset. Hike up a Munro before sunrise. Camp out in a wild glen, or cycle over the Duke’s Pass. Spend an afternoon fishing, bouldering, or horse riding – whatever your style, you’ll find something brilliant to do in the National Park. Join an exciting and dynamic staff at McLaren High School and be part of a team who encourage and inspire every pupil to achieve their potential.
