27.5 hours per week, 39 weeks per year salary pro rata
Under the direction of the designated teacher, the post holder will work with and support school pupils by undertaking a range of activities relating to the general supervision, safety, care and well being of pupils.
The post holder will act as a facilitator for the full participation and integration of children and young people with severe to complex needs. A young person may be deemed to have severe and complex needs if they typically have severe learning difficulties in combination with one or more of the following needs:Use of alternative or augmentative method of communication A need to use adaptive technology/specialised software A need for a high level of specialised multi-agency support A need for modification to the physical environment A need for a high level of specialised resources
the skills and knowledge you must have:-The ability to demonstrate experience and knowledge required to carry out the higher level duties described A working knowledge of alternative methods of communication – sign-a-long, PECs, communication switches Requirement to undertake training in a number of areas relating to the care of pupils with severe to complex needs Requirement to undertake training relating to the administering of medication including, but not limited to, The administering of emergency medication for seizures The administering of medication such as insulin for diabetic pupils In exceptional circumstances this could include the administering of oxygen and suctioning Safe manual handling procedures Satisfactory PVG/Enhanced Disclosure check Ability to work towards and gain a qualification to allow registration with SSSC First Aid qualification
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the West Lothian Council
