Job Description

The Scottish Ambulance Service has a proud history in relation to training and professional development and to support this, the Education and Professional Development Department has 3 Regional Clinical Education Centres which are predominantly involved in delivering VQ Technician Courses, Emergency Driver training, Learning in Practice sessions etc, and other relevant regional and national education work streams.

Two opportunities have arisen for the post of Assistant Head of Education (AHE) with locations still to be determined.

The post holders will be responsible with the other AHEs in supporting the Head of Education and Professional Development (HofE) with all educational activities within the SAS;, ensuring our staff receive the most up to date and appropriate education available. The post holder will also assist the HofE role in developing and supporting our education infrastructure for the future to meet the requirements of the legislative bodies and the goals of 2020 strategy and beyond.



The post holder will be a Paramedic Registered with the Health Care Professions Council, and must hold an Ordinary Degree in Paramedic, Health or related Social Science subject; working towards Masters level qualification.

In addition they should hold or be willing to work towards, an appropriate level of teaching qualification (Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training / equivalent or above). They should be able to demonstrate previous experience of delivering education to students studying at SCQF level 6 and 7, and have senior experience in an educational field ; being able to demonstrate a track record of developing and delivering an educational curriculum within a healthcare setting. A proven track record in relation to managing staff and financial resources would be beneficial.
