We are looking to appoint an energetic and committed school leader, either from the primary or secondary sector, with good strategic and management skills who will, with the support of an enthusiastic and dedicated staff team, maintain the inspiring ethos as well as provide vision and direction for the continuing success of this island school.

Orkney lies eight miles north of the Scottish mainland and is the smallest local authority in Scotland. There is a strong cultural life and visitors world-wide are attracted to the scenery, history and archaeology. Orkney is home to a cosmopolitan community of about 20,000 residents and among its many attributes, offers a safe environment, excellent educational and recreational facilities, a community spirit, and an exceptional quality of life with reasonably priced housing.

Sanday Community School caters for pupils from 3 to 16 years (pre-school to S4). The current school roll is 63, which includes the nursery. The school is also a Community Centre with excellent facilities, well used by pupils and Sanday residents. The school enjoys exceptional support from its Parent Council and the wider community. An ethos of hard work and a caring attitude has enabled pupils to engage in a very positive learning environment, expectations are high and all pupils are positively encouraged to achieve their potential.

Applicants must be registered or in the process of registering with the General Teaching Council for Scotland and be able to demonstrate that they have, through both experience and professional development, met the criteria in the Standard for Headship. As head teacher you will be part of the education service management team and will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of education in Orkney as a whole.
