The Marine Policy & Advice Officer will lead production of Marine Protected Area (MPA) assessments to support the development of MPA management plans in the Outer Hebrides and Argyll.

Scotland’s MPA network plays an important role in helping conserve our marine environment but further work is required to ensure that the network is well-managed. This post is part of the INTERREG VA funded MarPAMM* project aimed at delivering conservation and other benefits for Argyll and the Outer Hebrides, integrating management of MPAs with wider marine planning.

The focus of this post is to bring together data relevant to MPAs and, where relevant, Priority Marine Features in the seas around Argyll and the Outer Hebrides. Using these data, collate baseline information and provide user-friendly summaries that will be used to support the development of MPA management plans. The post will also focus on ensuring the data are well-managed and made accessible, thus supporting future development of the management plans.

The job holder will have expertise in Scotland’s marine life and marine conservation, with good project and data management skills including Geographic Information Systems.

*MarPAMM: A project supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Closing date: midnight 6 November 2018.
