For 30 years Sense Scotland has been working with people who have communication support needs and believes everyone should have a choice in how they live their life. People we work with include those who have sensory impairment, deafblindness, autism, learning or physical disabilities and healthcare support needs.

We are looking for a full time supervisor to oversee the day to day management of 2 of our 24 hour housing support services based in Coatbridge and work closely alongside the other supervisors, locality manager and registered manager to ensure all services receive good management support and are of a high quality.  The Supervisor will provide practice based support and supervision to less experienced staff, helping them to develop and adapt their skills and knowledge to meet the often complex and changing needs of the people they are supporting. The supervisor will be required to provide direct care in our services, working alongside staff and this may include sleepover and/or waking night duties as required. The supervisor will also have regular management time per week to attend to the maintenance and development of quality systems including regular audits, service delivery rotas and management of finances of people we support. 

This vacancy is based in Coatbridge but will cover Lanarkshire, West Lothian and surrounding areas for Care at Home and Housing Support Service, therefore a car driver is essential.

Supervisors will also be expected to take on an additional responsibility in assisting the Manager to provide formal supervision to individual staff.

Successful Applicants Must Have:

SVQ level 3 in Social Care
Must be in a position to gain qualification as determined by the SSSC for registration; such as a relevant professional qualification and /or an SVQ 4 in Social Care (If not already completed), must be in a position to undertake study towards an additional supervisory or management qualification suitable for a supervisor of a care service with a minimum of 15 credits at SCQF level 7 or above.
Be able to gain registration with the SSSC within the timescale required.
Practical experience working directly with people with complex support needs.
Experience in leading a shift.
Car driver

Desirable Criteria:
SVQ level 4
Supervisory or management qualification suitable for a supervisor of a care service with a minimum of 15 credits at SCQF level 7 or above.
IT skills i.e. Microsoft Office and HR database systems.
Signed communication skills to a minimum of BSL.
SVQ Assessors Qualification.
Food Hygiene Certificate.


Key Responsibilities Include:
Individual service user needs are identified and met in practice.
They set and demonstrate good standards of work practice, by offering support, supervision and on shift training through example.
Guide staff in providing a welcoming responsive, flexible and integrated service provision that reflects and meets the needs of service users and their family.
Staffing rotas are maintained, taking into account information relating to any changes in service user or staff needs.


The service user's individual support plan is implemented and is updated as required to reflect any day-to-day changes in the service user’s needs.
Proper record-keeping, including recording incidents and complaints are maintained.
The required information in relation to staff pay and sickness as outlined in the Sense Scotland guidance is recorded appropriately and passed to the Manager
Be aware of the responsibilities of individual service users with regard to their tenancy agreement and support them to meet these.

Support people to apply into practice all the principles of safety in the home as agreed with the Manager.

Support people to apply the principles of healthy eating and personal and household hygiene into their daily living as agreed with the Manager.
Where a service user shows behaviours that present a challenge to staff ensure that all agreed intervention strategies are implemented into practice.
Where risk assessments are in place to minimise risk to either service users or staff ensure that the appropriate steps are taken to apply the guidance into practice.
