A traineeship gives you the opportunity to gain a professional qualification while learning both on and off-the-job, which means trainees learn the right mix of skills, abilities and knowledge.
This position will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work within an established Quantity Surveying Team within Property Services. Property Services is a multi-disciplinary business unit within Asset Management & Building Services, consisting of approximately 200 employees, comprising Architects, Quantity Surveyors, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical and Energy Engineers, Facilities Officers, Technicians, Inspectors and Clerks of Works, together with administrative staff.
You will be have the opportunity to be involved with new building projects, extensions, alterations and refurbishments to existing Fife Council properties, which include housing, schools, offices, community centres, Police and Fire Stations etc.Requirements
A traineeship is a work-based training programme that leads to an industry approved qualification. As part of this job role the post holder will be expected to attend college or university part time in order to undertake a recognised and approved course of study.
In addition to meeting the qualification requirements employees must satisfy the standards set by management in relation to standard of work, commitment, motivation, punctuality and discipline.
Assist in preparing cost estimates for individual projects.
Assist in preparation of property based insurance claims and reinstatement valuations.
Assist in implementing the procurement route selected for projects.
Assist in the analysis of tenders.
Assist in the preparation of interim valuations, re measurements, assess variations and prepare final accounts in conjunction with contractor.
Assist in the reporting of cost progress of contracts and the control of costs in conjunction with the Contract Administrator.
Comply with relevant legislation and regulations and the Council’s and Property Service’s policies on Health and Safety and codes of practice.
Carry out other tasks within the general scope of the post as may be allocated from time to time.
Comply with the Council’s Scheme of Administration and Standing
Orders. Contribute to the achievement of the Council’s corporate aims and values.
The applicant must have the willingness to undergo training and a course of study relevant to the job and have a commitment to personal development.
Experience in the following is essential:Preparation of contract documentation and Bills of Quantities. Preparation of cost estimates for projects of a simple nature Preparation of interim valuations and producing valuation certificates Preparation of property based insurance reinstatement valuations Using computer billing systems and other appropriate software packages
