Job Vacancy

Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 of which have nurseries) and 2 stand alone nursery schools. Saltersgate is Midlothian’s school which provides support for children with a range of complex additional support needs. The schools range in size from our smallest primary school with around 20 children to our largest secondary with over 1200 pupils. We have a diverse range of school catchments, from rural to urban settings. We are fortunate to have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 of our primary schools and 1 secondary having been built within the last 10 years and several new builds planned.

The school management consists of a Head Teacher, 2 Depute Head Teachers and 5 Principal Teachers, each with responsibility for a specific area of the school and one with responsibility for our Inclusion and Outreach Service. In total there are 120 education staff; 38 teaching staff and 82 support staff, plus a range of health professionals including nursing, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and speech and language therapists.

The school has a clear focus on developing pupils’ skills for lifelong learning with a particular emphasis on developing programmes of Outdoor Learning and Learning for Sustainability.

Saltersgate School has a position available for a school business manager to join the leadership team. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as business, finance or human resources and demonstrate a high level of competency in communication and interpersonal skills. They will bring experience of operating at a leadership and management level, such that they can make an immediate contribution to the Senior Leadership Team and positively impact on the effectiveness of the school's support services. It is desirable that they will have experience of working in a school environment and have knowledge and understanding of school governance and national education priorities.

Educated to degree level in a relevant subject such as business, finance or human resources.

The post holder should bring experience of operating at a leadership and management level, such that they can make an immediate contribution to the Senior Leadership Team and positively impact on the effectiveness of the school's support services.

Essential

A high level of competency in communication, presentational and interpersonal skills.

Strong organisational and analytical skills and practical facilitation skills.

Experience of budget responsibility and monitoring

Experience of managing staff

Experience in resource/project management

Desirable

A professional qualification in management, business, human resources, finance or other relevant field.

Experience of working in a school environment

Knowledge and understanding of school governance and national education priorities.

Knowledge of business planning and performance management
