An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and confident individual to join our Nursery team. Heathryburn is a modern, bright and spacious school with fantastic indoor and outdoor facilities, which was built in 2009 as part of the 3R’s project. The current school roll is 371 pupils, which includes 13 classes and an 80 place nursery.

Job Purpose:

To work as part of the early years and childcare team to take delegated responsibility for the organisation and management tasks required to plan and deliver an effective early learning and childcare service for children and their families.

Providing professional support to the Early Years Practitioner, Pupil Support staff and students, to deliver a flexible, high quality early learning and childcare service.

Playing a key role in meeting the individual needs of children and their families ensuring their wellbeing and improving the outcomes for children and their families using the service.


Qualification Requirements:

SCQF level 9 qualification, BA Childhood Practice or equivalent experience in undertaking the delegated duties outlined in the job profile

Registration with or eligibility to register with SSSC

PVG Membership for Regulated work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.


The post holder will be expected to:

As part of the early learning and childcare team, under the guidance of teaching staff, use professional skills in the planning, implementing, assessing and evaluating of the early learning and childcare service delivered by the nursery

Contribute to the delivery of an effective early learning and childcare service, both within the nursery setting and more widely across the city.

Create a supportive and nurturing ethos in which children are encouraged and supported to develop their self esteem, self confidence and respect for others.

Lead the day to day supervision of Early Years Practitioners and PSA’s in the operation of the nursery.

Undertake the PRD for Early Years and Childcare Practitioners

Observe and interact with children in order to support their learning and development.

Ensure reporting of children's progress and record keeping is in line with the school’s policies, regulatory and statutory standards.

Ensure the care and health & safety needs of the children are met.

Collaborate with others involved in children's learning and development at all times respecting the need for confidentiality and sensitivity.

Be responsible for their own continuing professional development, including keeping abreast of current theory and practice.

Actively contribute to and, in the absence of the teacher, lead all aspects of team work within the setting including professional development of early years and childcare students, preparation and care of resources, maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene and contribute to staff and team discussions.

Undertake specific duties or projects as directed by the senior management team to ensure the nursery provision is delivered to the highest standard
