Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity to have an interesting and varied professional workload within the enforcement field of planning activity. You will be involved in the assessment of unauthorised development requiring permission with regard to taking proportionate actions, utilising a variety of powers to bring cases to a satisfactory conclusion wherever possible. A new City Development Plan has recently been adopted, major regeneration initiatives are underway and over 3000 development applications are received each year. The Planning Performance Framework as developed sets a context to ensure that activity supports sustainable economic recovery and you will be responsible for ensuring that core elements are delivered through helping to ensure that the planning system delivers development which has been agreed through the planning process and therefore does not undermine stakeholders' confidence in the planning system. As a member of a team you will prepare Planning Impact Reports, give technical advice to colleagues, customers and clients, providing expertise in response to appeals against enforcement notices and providing evidence in court whenever necessary. A new Planning Enforcement Charter has been adopted which sets the service pledges and standards the Council aims to achieve. You will be expected to play an important role in helping the enforcement team to deliver performance targets, but also to be proactive in participating in a climate of continuous improvement, which is at the heart of the Council's overall objectives. As well as Planners/Architects the position may be suitable for other built environment professions such as Urban Designers/Landscape Architects/Architects.
