Job Description

Manage the safe, efficient and proper operation of the vessel at all times.


Ensure the safe navigation, dredging operations and mooring procedures of the vessel at all times, to protect life at sea and the marine and harbour environments in accordance with the Moray Council Dredger Safety Management System (DSMS).

Communicate clearly with vessel crew at all times to ensure their comprehension and compliance with the DSMS.

Act professionally as a representative of the Council when liaising with customers and Harbour Authorities.

The Individual

Significant experience as Master or Chief Officer.
Extensive ship handling experience and ability.
Management and leadership in a marine environment.
A valid STCW A-II/2 Near Coastal < 500 tonne Certificate of Competence
GMDSS Certification
Medical care on board Certificate
A working knowledge of Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer and Excel.
Self confident and self motivated
Effective organisational skills including time management
Good ship handling skills.
Effective communication and interaction with members of the public.
Good working knowledge of relevant MCA regulations.
High standard of safety awareness.
A high level of accuracy and Attention to detail.
Ability to motivate others and manage them to produce results
Appreciation and acceptance of the commitment to the importance of confidentiality
Ability to relate to and support others in the team.
Helpful to colleagues and customers.
Ability to accept direction/delegation.
Must be physically fit and able to work both onshore and afloat in demanding and potentially hazardous situations – must pass ENG 1 Medical.
Flexible approach to working hours.
