About the role
As an Operations Manager at Royal Mail, you will ensure that the 23 Delivery Offices within your remit are running as effectively and efficiently as possible. Covering the entire Aberdeen and Shetlands area (AB and ZE postcode areas), you will utilise your existing multi-site management experience to excel and ensure that the operation, delivering mail to over 29 million addresses in the UK, is running as efficiently as possible.
Reporting to the Delivery Leader, as an Operations Manager you’ll be responsible for the leadership and support of 23 Delivery Offices, throughout which we employ over 1000 frontline employees. You’ll drive performance improvement through a coaching model driven by a vital few scorecard indicators, and although full accountability is given to Delivery Office Managers, you will retain overall responsibility and accountability for delivering scorecard results for the 23 units and will implement performance interventions as needed.

You’ll create a customer focused culture where Delivery teams are comfortable with total accountability for unit performance and are trusted to deliver both performance and compliance, where all employees understand and perform their role to meet the requirements of the business and the customers in a way that promotes individual accountability. We aim to put customers first and deliver on our promises, every time. All this whilst driving for continuous improvement through collaborative pipeline and team working.
Working closely alongside trade union representatives, you’ll ensure your team understand the commercial and competitive market we are in, whilst creating an environment that inspires people to think logically using data and facts, generating solutions to improve existing conditions and processes; identifying improvement opportunities alongside generating ideas, and driving solution implementation.
It takes more than organisational skills to be an Operations Manager. We’re looking for individuals with a passion for people. You’ll provide coaching and advice, while keeping the whole operation running smoothly. Your experience might be within retail, FMCG or logistics but your ability to motivate, inspire and lead, with a successful commercial track record of leading and developing high performing team, is what we’re looking for. You will have a track record of success through engaging your people to do the right thing, and it’s essential that you’re passionate about delivering results.
With the ability to understand and analyse a wide range of data, to be able to address and coach a team over a large geographical multisite area on overall performance, you’ll have an eye for detail and be confident in efficiently managing resources and budgets – all with a view to ensuring your team is working at its very best. Leading by example to actively protect the safety, health and wellbeing of themselves and others you’ll ensure compliance with safety and health legislation and our safety and health standards, by inspiring others' commitment to create a safe working environment, working practices and to support them in improving their wellbeing.
