Our Conductors provide high levels of customer service excellence, providing our customers with regular train service information through public address announcements and offer any special assistance our customers may need on their journey. The role can be unpredictable at times so you'll need to be good at thinking on your feet. Through carrying out regular tickets checks, our Conductors ensure everyone on board has a valid train ticket and at times have to deal with some challenging customers.

Conductors have high safety responsibilities and are required to rigorously comply with safety related rules and regulations. So you'll need to be comfortable with being responsible for high levels of safety and have the ability to retain and recall important safety procedures and strictly adhere to all safety standards.

If you're already a qualified conductor then we'd like to hear from you too. We want to hear about your fantastic customer service skills and your excellent safety record.

Here's what some of our Trainee Conductors has to say about the role:

‘I started as a conductor a little over a year ago and have never looked back since. The job is what you make it and this is so true! I love that I have a different view out of the window, minute to minute, and no journey is ever the same. The excitement of travelling to the airport or the routine of the daily commute, you have the chance to change someone's day, by a smile or a simple hello to helping with luggage, connections or travel information. Travelling is an experience and should start here. Let's make it a good one, welcome aboard!'

"I feel lucky to work for TransPennine, not just lucky to have a job!"

Applicants will be invited to complete an online assessment and if successful, you'll be invited to a full day of assessments, all designed round the skills required for the role. Finally you'll be invited to an interview with one of our Customer Service Managers. If you've got what we're looking for, we'll invite you to a medical examination and a drugs/alcohol screening as we need to make sure you can safely carry out the role. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references and complete a six month probation period.
