About the role
GL Hearn, part of the Capita Group are looking for a chartered business rates surveyor with ideally 1 - 2 years year PQE or equivalent experience to join their team in the South. The business rates surveyor will be responsible for the negotiation of business rate appeals throughout England, Wales and Scotland. Advice and offer recommendations to clients regarding these appeals and regarding rating matters generally. Responsibility for agreeing levels of value in respect of 2010 and 2017 Rating Lists. Inspecting and measuring properties as necessary.

What you will do:
Working within one of their UK's largest Rating Teams you will have a personal caseload of Rating Appeals to review and agree and you will provide advice to clients regarding rate liability matters. Main area of work is in connection with a variety of property types including retail, office, industrial and local authority occupations but all major classes of property are involved from time to time.
The role will primarily involve you working within a team based in Southampton/London. There will be a need to work closely with our central administration team in Southampton but this role will covering appeal settlement work, client development and budgeting advice for clients and covering areas as required throughout England and Wales
Measures of good performance:
- Successful settlement of appeals.
- Timely reporting to clients.
- Accurate maintenance of the GL Hearn Information Management System
- Responding to business rates enquiries from clients and prospects and seeking opportunities to cross sell other services offered by GL Hearn.
Qualifications / Experience
- Qualified Chartered Surveyor with minimum 1 year PQE or Equivalent experience, Knowledge of valuation for rating purposes.
- Experience of negotiation of rating appeals.
- Understanding of rate liability calculations.
- IT skills (Word, Excel, database maintenance).
- Experience of property inspections.
- Knowledge of the property market in major centres would be an advantage.
