Interviews for this role will be held on Friday 1st February 2019

Glasgow Caledonian University is a vibrant multi-cultural modern university in the centre of Glasgow and is placed amongst the top 150 modern Universities in the world (THE, 2017).

The Institute for University to Business Education (U2BInstitute) formerly the School for Work Based Education (SWBE) is seeking to recruit an outstanding programme leader for its BSc Railway Operations Management programme delivered in South Africa for employees of Transnet Freight Rail.

The work that U2BInstitute undertakes is a cornerstone in the delivery of GCU’s vision to be the University for the Common Good and to provide access to higher education for all. Our work encompasses the new Graduate Apprenticeships in Scotland, Degree Apprenticeships in England and for over 20 years has focused on supporting working people to develop their education at Degree, Postgraduate and Doctorate level across a range of disciplines.

Working in partnership with other schools across the university – Engineering and the Built Environment, Glasgow School for Business and Society, Health and Life Sciences – we deliver a unique university to business service internationally. We source opportunities and partners where we know our expertise can make a difference – to individuals, to organisations and businesses and even to the infrastructure of an emerging economy.

This is a critical role for GCU’s transnational university to business offerings through the U2BInstitute. The individual will be expected to grow the excellent student experience for the 500 students in South Africa, work collaboratively with our team of subject matter and work-based experts and nurture first-class client relationships through the ongoing delivery of a programme that continuously adds value to students and their employers.

This is not an ordinary academic programme lead role as we are looking for an individual who is able to travel to South Africa up to four times a year for an average of three weeks each time. We are looking for someone that has been recognised for their outstanding, dynamic and proactive leadership, their ability to be a collegiate team player and to problem-solve and engage at all levels of the programme.

As well as having outstanding leadership and a diligent awareness of university quality assurance you should be culturally aware, able to work both collegiately and with autonomy as required. You must be an excellent decision-maker whilst remaining engaging and open with a diverse range of students and other stakeholders. GCU looks for candidates with high ethical values and integrity that matches the values of GCU, the University for the Common Good.

If you have any questions on the role or would like an informal discussion, please contact Marty Wright m.wright@gcu.ac.uk

As the University for the Common Good, we are committed to embedding equality and diversity, as well as our values in everything that we do. As such, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified candidates who demonstrate the GCU Values.

Applications must be made online at myjobscotland.gov.uk
