For 30 years Sense Scotland has been working with people who have communication support needs and believes everyone should have a choice in how they live their life. People we work with include those who have sensory impairment, deafblindness, autism, learning or physical disabilities and healthcare support needs.

Children’s Support Services is a fast moving, busy environment where our staff develop the required skills and knowledge to meet the often complex and changing needs of the children and young people we support. The team are committed to supporting young people to achieve their outcomes in health and social opportunities. As a Practitioner you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team, working directly on shift with the people we support and will play a key role in leading shifts by dealing with; petty cash, medication, practice based support and supervision of less experienced staff. All training in relevant areas will be provided.

The support we provide takes place after school at weekends and on school holidays.

The successful candidate will be qualified to SVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent and will have experience of shift leading in a similar role.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Individual service user needs are identified and met in practice.
Set and demonstrate good standards of work practice, by offering support, supervision and on shift training through example.
Guide staff in providing a welcoming responsive, flexible and integrated service provision that reflects and meets the needs of service users and their family.
Staffing rotas are maintained, taking into account information relating to any changes in service user or staff needs.
Play a key role in ensuring the effective deployment of staff to provide the optimum use of staff skills and knowledge.
Service user's individual care plans are implemented and for ensuring it is updated to reflect any day-to-day changes in the service user’s needs.
Working alongside support staff in the delivery of a high quality service for service users ensuring that all standards as laid down by statutory and internal documents are met.
Record-keeping, including recording incidents and complaints are maintained.
Staff have a good working knowledge of the guidance and operational handbooks and are provided with the required support to apply these principles into practice.
Staff and volunteers are properly supervised and appraised and have access to advice and support.
Staff use their knowledge and skills to meet the needs of those using the service as outlined in their care plans.
The service is continually reviewed and evaluated and identified improvements are achieved within the agreed timescales.

Successful Applicants Must Have:
SVQ Level 3 in Social Care (or other specialty recognised by the SSSC for registration purposes) such as HNC Social Care (2005 revised award G7ME15)
Residental Child Care Workers require: Any practice qualification in the manager category and SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7 plus HNC Social Care (or an award of certificated knowledge with 96 credits at or above SCQF Level 7)
Practical experience working directly with people with complex support needs.
Be able to gain registration with the SSSC within the timescale required, where relevant.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of current statutory requirements, Care Commission standards, registration requirements and the SSSC Codes of Practice
