Don’t be fooled by all those people who say that manufacturing is dead in the UK and we are service-driven now.
Listen to what The Manufacturer one of the leading publications for the industry in the UK has to say: ‘Manufacturing contributes £6.7 trillion to the global economy. Contrary to widespread perceptions, UK manufacturing is strong with the UK currently the world's ninth largest industrial nation. Manufacturing makes up 10 per cent of GVA and 45 per cent of UK exports, and directly employs 2.7 million people.’
With its finger on the manufacturing pulse, it also said its research shows ‘close to 70 per cent stated that they struggle to recruit experienced and skilled workers, and nearly 40 per cent experience problems hiring managers and 23 per cent reported ‘significant’ struggles recruiting apprentices’.
That makes for very interesting reading when considering your future career path.
