Wyvex Media is a publishing company with its headquarters in Oban on the west coast of Scotland, producing well-loved local newspaper titles like The Oban Times, Argyllshire Advertiser and The Campbeltown Courier. It also produces renowned Scottish lifestyle magazine Scottish Field from its offices in Edinburgh.

HiJOBS has been working with Wyvex since 2016, but more recently called on our expertise to help them in their digital transformation project.

Wyvex has refused to rest on its laurels after successfully navigating the pandemic, being amongst the first to introduce a digital subscription model for local news and maintaining its loyal local, national and international readership. Recognising the opportunity in its strong selection of media brands, they embarked on a project to further embrace digital media by developing its portfolio with new apps and cutting edge website technology.

The challenge for the company was finding the fresh new talent to join the company and help steer the business into the future. These staff would be based both in Oban and the Scottish capital and require skillsets entirely new to the business. After some unsuccesful attempts to attract talent in-house, Wyvex asked us to see what we could do.

Our approach

HiJOBS took a close, consultative approach on this project given the unique requirements and set out a campaign which was run over 2 months.

The key areas we worked on:

  • Re-wrote job descriptions tailored to the roles, with relevant insights to the skills required
  • Provided some up-to date salary analysis from our own database to ensure the package was as competititve as possible
  • Created a custom short-url (hijobs.net/jobs/wyvex) for their employer profile, allowing an easier transition of interest from print to online
  • Advised on supporting video-production which was integrated into both the job descriptions and the employer profile
  • Carried out targetted social media campaigns using the profiles created
  • Created a broadcast email campaign to matching candidates in our career database

Performance Metrics

The roles advertised by HiJOBS on behalf of the company amassed over 77,000 unique views between them and a total of 435 applications across the campaign.
